Superman returns?

We just saw Superman. Good movie. If I were a film critic I would tell you the structure of the movie is original, the psychology of the characters is a bit deeper that the 70’s versions (that is the least we could expect from Bryan Singer), though some nice references to the old movies can be appreciated (check the generic and, of course, the good old theme by John Williams). I wouldn’t forget to tell you about the amazing performance of Kevin Spacey.
I am not a film critic. What I can tell you anyway is that life of the citizens of New York, I mean, Metropolis, has been tough for the past years.
First, they ask, with a bitter sadness: “Superman? Where have you been for the past years? We suffered so much and you were not here?!”. For those who didn’t see the movie, Superman went for a trip and disappeared for a few years, but he eventually comes back in a meteoroid and Lois Lane has a kid. I know, this is a bit messy but I can’t summarize a 2 hours and half long super hero drama in one sentence. Anyway, Superman is back. Meanwhile New York, I mean Metropolis, suffered. If you didn’t get the metaphor clearly enough wait for the scene where a Boeing 777 is falling down on Manhattan, I mean Metropolis downtown, and Superman just stops it a second before it crashes on the towers.
The conclusion of the movie is clear. The world needs a hero. After a while of distress Metropolis has his hero back.
Too bad that’s fiction. New York, you can wait for your hero. It’s been 6 years now that Lex Luthor, I mean Bush, is in power, and I can’t see any flying hero coming to rescue. So the world is getting destroyed little by little. Kyoto, Halliburton, the Axe of Evil, the right of Isreal to annihilate Lebanon. There are probably a few tons of Krypton in the cave of the White House…
